Visuo-tactile mirror properties in borderline personality disorder: a preregistered TMS-EEG study

چکیده

Abstract Empathic abilities have been suggested to involve automatic simulation processes including mirror-like mechanisms in the somatosensory domain, within so-called tactile mirror system (TaMS). In TaMS, observation of a touch on one else's body activates same cortical network involved perception, comprising primary cortex (S1). As empathic appear be altered patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD), alterations TaMS hypothesized. this context, combined use transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroencephalography (TMS-EEG) represents promising tool understand dynamics terms effective connectivity. Here, we aim at investigating connectivity 20 BPD healthy controls, by means TMS-EEG. TMS is delivered over left S1 while 74-channel EEG continuously recorded. TMS-evoked potentials (TEPs) are recorded during real touches (visual stimuli either part or an object), different time intervals for delivery (20 ms 150 after onset). Besides TEPs, behavioral measures functioning also collected, two groups will compared along measures. Hypotheses, methods planned analyses preregistered Open Science Framework before data collection improve methodological rigor transparency. Preliminary results show that TEPs can effectively components 50 100 consistent previous findings subjects. Moreover, subtraction event-related from enabled comparison between delivery. Results present study provide novel insights as putative neurophysiological candidate deficits, TMS-EEG recordings. Research Category Technology Methods Translational Research: 10. Repetitive TMS on Left Cerebellum Affects Impulsivity in Borderline Personality Disorder: A Pilot Study

The borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by a severe pattern of instability in emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, identity and impulse control. These functions are related to the prefrontal cortex (PFC), and since PFC shows a rich anatomical connectivity with the cerebellum, the functionality of the cerebellar-PFC axis may impact on BPD. In this study, we inves...

Borderline personality disorder.

Recent research findings have contributed to an improved understanding and treatment of borderline personality disorder. This disorder is characterised by severe functional impairments, a high risk of suicide, a negative effect on the course of depressive disorders, extensive use of treatment, and high costs to society. The course of this disorder is less stable than expected for personality di...

Borderline personality disorder

It is refreshing to read a generally positive and optimistic editorial about borderline personality disorder and its long-term prognosis (Fonagy & Bateman, 2006). It is also reassuring to find the authors speculating about an issue long recognised by users of personality disorder services, that is, the ‘reality of iatrogenic harm’. We feel, however, that there is a worrying element to this piec...

Mpd, Borderline Personality Disorder

Multiple personality disorder (MPD) has at times been confused with both schizophrenia (SCHIZ) and borderlinepersonality disorder (BPD). In this study, 38patients withDSM-III-R diagnosis ofMPD (N = 16), SCHIZ (N = 11), or BPD (N = 11) were evaluated with a battery of structured interviews (SCID, DDIS) and psychometric tests (MMPI, MCMI, DES) in order to define distinguishing features among the ...
